All That I Am Or Hope To Be…

May 10, 2015

“All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.”  That’s what Abraham Lincoln said.  Because he used the word “angel,” many have assumed he meant Nancy Hanks Lincoln, his biological mother who died before Abe’s tenth birthday.  Some think these words refer to his stepmother Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln who lived to see him become President.  Some versions of the above quotation refer to Lincoln’s “sainted mother.”

No matter what version, no matter which mother, the lesson is clear.  A good mother can have a profound impact on history.
