He served as a U.S. Congressman and then as a U.S. Senator from New Hampshire, but that is not enough.

He served as a brigadier general in the Mexican War, but that is not enough.

When he ran for President, he defeated his former commanding general by the largest electoral landslide in 32 years, but that is not enough.

He signed the pro-slavery Kansas-Nebraska Act, and that is what makes all his other accomplishments not enough to cause us to mention his name.
