Grant’s Tomb

May 27, 2013

The General Grant National Memorial, more commonly known as “Grant’s Tomb,” is the largest mausoleum in North America.  It was dedicated April 27, 1897 on what would have been the late President’s 75th birthday.  During the 1950s, whenever one of his quiz show contestants failed to answer the usual questions, host Groucho Marx would toss them a softball by asking: “Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?”  The obvious answer is only partially correct.  Both the General and Mrs. Grant are interred there.
