Eliza Ballou Garfield

May 7, 2013

Eliza Ballou Garfield was the mother of the 20th U.S. President.  On his 24th birthday Garfield wrote in his diary: “In reviewing the varied scenes of my short yet eventful life,… I can see one golden thread running through the whole – my Mother’s influence upon me.”
