Garfield’s Assassin

James Garfield’s assassin has often been called a disappointed office-seeker, but at least one of Garfield’s biographers has challenged this notion.  Allan Peskin, author of Garfield, says that Charles Guiteau was a religious fanatic who did not even own a clean shirt.  Peskin states this directly in the C-Span series on the American Presidents.
