The Answer to the One Question Quiz

March 18, 2013

George Washington was nominated for President twice and won both times.

The same goes for Lincoln, Reagan, Clinton, and Obama.

None of the Presidents mentioned above had ever been nominated for vice-President.

In all of American history only two Presidents have been nominated for either President or vice-President a total of five times each.  Can you name them?  Here’s a hint: only one of them held both offices.

And here is the answer:  Franklin Delano Roosevelt ran for vice-President in 1920 and lost.  In 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944 he was elected President.  Richard Nixon was elected vice-President in 1952 and 1956.  He ran for President in 1960 and lost.  He was elected President in 1968 and 1972.
